Dr. Jiajiu Shaw received his B.S. degree in chemistry from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, and his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the University of Kansas in 1985. He then worked as a postdoc at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Subsequently, he worked at several small and large pharmaceutical companies including Ciba-Geigy (now Novartis). In 1997, he started his own company, Unitech Pharmaceuticals, focusing on the discovery of anticancer drugs. In 2008, he joined 21st Century Therapeutics and is now president of the company. Dr. Shaw has been active in the research of cancer and immune-mediated diseases for thirty years. His accomplishments can be reflected partially from his awards of over 3 million dollars in research grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health, mostly from the National Cancer Institute. In addition to his scientific publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, he has received 18 patents in the fields of cancer and immune-mediated diseases. This is his first semi-technical book in the field of cancer prepared for laymen, in hopes that more people can benefit from the content and have a better understanding of cancer.
